Yes, of Course You Should, and Here’s Why.
I have two websites that allow me to meet potential clients for my ghostwriting/cowriting agency and my coaching program.
www.ChristianGhostwriting.com and www.ChristianWritingCoach.net
The most common conversation I have with people after we've set up a meeting is the one where they wonder if the thing they think would be a good idea for a book is actually a good idea for a book.
It almost always is.
Assuming…
…that it's written well in a format that is loving and helpful for the reader.
I recently met a man who worked 30 years for a traditional publishing house. He said, "I used to think everyone had a book in them. But now I don't. Now I say, 'everyone has a story.'"
Do I agree with him?
No. I don't agree. I agree that everyone has a story, but I also think everyone has a book in them.
Why do I say that?
Because why not? Who died and made him the judge and jury of who gets to write a book?
Think about it this way: Does everyone deserve to say what they believe to be true?
Of course they do! It's the very reason I'm in this business. I am certain that the way forward in our society is paved by truth-tellers.
No, you don't have to be right. But you must sincerely believe you are. If you are wrong, we the readers tell you, and you'll be that much smarter (hopefully we the beta readers before you publish).
Now, if you think someone should be allowed to say something, then they should be allowed to write something. Maybe it's just a tweet.
But if they should be allowed to write a tweet, then they should be allowed to write a tweet thread.
And if they should be allowed to do that, then they should be allowed to write an article.
And if they should be allowed to write an article…why on earth shouldn't they be allowed to write a book?
Here's the reality. No matter how great your story or how powerful your message, it's going to be hard to get people to read it.
But that's not the issue. It's not because your story and message aren't important. That shouldn't even be a consideration.
What will matter once you've decided to write it, is to write it well and then promote it with abandon.
That's difficult, but it doesn't mean you don't deserve to try.
Proverbs 15:23 says, "A person finds joy in giving an apt reply—and how good is a timely word!" Your book could be exactly the timely word someone needs.
Jeff, this post is exactly why you are my Coach and teacher, helping me write, edit and publish my book this year! You and your staff have taught me so much, and I look forward to what I accomplish in the future. Thank you so much!
